Tory Lanez Gets Dragged By George Michael’s Estate For Unauthorized Use Of ‘Careless Whisper’

Tory Lanez is in hot water with George Michael’s Estate after he allegedly used the late singer’s “Careless Whisper” track without their permission.

The Estate claims Lanez’s “Enchanted Waterfall” samples the track and he was not authorized to do so.

“It was brought to our attention that the song ‘Enchanted Waterfall’ by the artist Tory Lanez incorporated an unauthorized sample of ‘Careless Whisper’ written by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley….requested permission for this use had been declined in June 2021 so we took immediate action on behalf of the writers, in collaboration with our publishers Warner Chappell Music, to prevent further exploitation as we will not tolerate any unauthorized use of any songs within the catalogues of George Michael and/or Andrew Ridgeley,” a statement released to Variety on behalf of the George Michael estate and Ridgeley reads.

The track has been pulled from Spotify but remains on Apple Music and YouTube.

Will Lanez have to pay them some coins?
