Lil Yachty Won’t Be Rapping On His Next Album

Lil Yachty says he will not be rapping on his next album.

“My new album is a non-rap album. It’s alternative, it’s sick,” he said.

He continued, “I’ve always wanted to [make an alternative album] but now I’ve met all these amazing musicians and producers.” He continued, “It’s like a psychedelic alternative project. It’s different. It’s all live instrumentation. … I’ve changed my dynamic… I’m creating music a whole lot differently.”

He says after meeting some of the producers he’s come across, now is the right time to do an alternative album.

His last album, Lil Boat 3 debuted on number 14 on the US Billboard 200. The rapper’s first week numbers were 30,000 album-equivalent units. His Teenage Emotion album before sold 45,000. At the time he was “devastated” by the low sales.

“I understand first week numbers didn’t do what most people expected but that’s only because they don’t understand me. They don’t understand us. I don’t expect anybody to,” he said at the time. “I make it for those who listen. I feel like my brand is so big and blew up so big, it blew up bigger than my actual music. Which isn’t the worst situation it could be worse all I have to is make it to where my brand hype and music hype equal out.. I am back in the studio. Working on my next ep. I know what you guys (my fans) liked about the project and didn’t like.. I’m putting that into consideration,”
