A 6-year-old girl was killed and five adults were injured in a drive-by shooting in Washington, DC, on Friday night, MTO News has learned. And just one day later, a series of posts were made on Instagram which purport to show 3 teenagers "bragging" about shooting the child.
The IG posts - which MTO News can not post without criminally implicating the teenage boys - shows the young men bragging about shooting at the "opps" and laughing when they learn that a young girl was hit.
The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m, when a silver or gray vehicle drove through the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE and Malcom X Avenue SE, and randomly fired from the car.
Here's video of the shooting:
The beautiful little 6 year old child was identified as Nyiah Courtney, according to Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee.
The shooting is the latest in a spate of gun violence that has gripped US cities this summer. There have been 361 mass shootings so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA). Up until the last two years, mass shootings were considered to mostly be committed by young White men. But all that has changed, as more and more mass shootings are being committed in Black neighborhoods.
With states lifting Covid-19 restrictions and more people out in warmer weather, cities have been experiencing a surge in shootings and homicide numbers.
