A grandmother is being charged with murdering, and then cooking her 20 month old granddaughter. The horrific crime happened in Jackson, Miss.
Police charged 48-year-old Carolyn Jones with first-degree murder in the death of baby Royalty Marie Floyd.
“I’ve been doing law enforcement for 25 or 26 years now,” Williams told The Associated Press. “This is one of the most horrible things I’ve seen in doing law enforcement. The hardest part ... is to see a child victim.”
Police say that Royalty lived with her grandmother, who had custody of the toddler.
Warren Strain at the Mississippi Department of Public Safety told the media that the Carolyn Jones' brother found the body of little Royalty on Monday night and called police.
Police investigators arrested Carolyn after brief questioning and are charging her with murder.
Authorities are still not yet certain as to the cause of Royalty's death, or whether that was before she was placed in the oven. But Royalty was stabbed multiple times before being burned in the oven.
The child’s body has been sent to the state Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy.
