Lena Waithe has released the trailer for her upcoming film, "Queen & Slim."
The movie, in which the trailer was premiered during the BET Awards 2019, was written and produced by Lena Waithe and is directed by Melina Matsoukas.
"It's meant to get people talking," Waithe said of the movie earlier this year at Cinemacon. "The film is not made to give the audience answers, but instead to ask questions and show what it looks like to be black and in love while the world is burning all around you."
Starring Daniel Kaluuya ("Get Out") and Jodie Turner-Smith ("Nightflyers"), "Queen & Slim" follows a Black couple who are out on their first date. The couple are then pulled over by a police officer, who they then kill in self-defense. The couple then go on the run together.
The film also stars Bokeem Woodbine ("Fargo"), Chloe Sevigny ("The Act"), and more.
"Queen & Slim" hits theaters in November.
