The first trailer for the 'Watchmen' starring Academy award-winning actress Regina King was released on Wednesday.

The Damon Lindelof -produced series is set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws. The series focuses on the influence of central Watchmen character Rorschach as his journal seems to have spawned a cult who have taken the antihero's words and warped them into something dark and menacing.

“We have no desire to ‘adapt’ the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago,” Lindelof wrote on Instagram a year ago. “Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted.”

The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.

Watchmen will debut on HBO in the fall of 2019.
