Actress and former Fox News contributor Stacey Dash has entered a plea of not guilty to a recent domestic battery charge.

According to documents viewed by Yahoo Entertainment, the actress's lawyer filed papers in Pasco County Circuit Court also requesting a trial by jury and intended to participate in discovery.

Stacey allegedly hit her new husband, Jeffrey Marty, to whom she just married in April 2018. According to reports, Stacey got into a domestic dispute with Jeffrey and allegedly pushed and slapped him. When police officers arrived on the scene, they found Jeffry with marks on his arm and arrested Stacey.

But according to a close friend of Stacey's she was acting in self-defense, a sentiment echoed in a recently released statement:

"Ms. Dash is a domestic abuse survivor from a previous relationship and has championed for other abuse victims to speak up," the statement said. "The untruthfulness being reported saddens Ms. Dash and her family - no further comments will be made and we ask that Ms. Dash and her family's privacy will be respected."
