Director Spike Lee is giving William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet the hip hop treatment with new project, Prince of Cats.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prince of Cats is an '80s-set hip-hop take on the literary classic of the tragic star-crossed love story seen through the eyes of Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin.

"The film centers on Tybalt and his Capulet brothers, who navigate Da People's Republic of Brooklyn, where underground sword dueling — including katanas — with the rival Montagues blossoms into a vibrant world. That world includes hip-hop essentials such as DJing, emceeing, breakdancing and graffiti."

Lee is best known for his movies She's Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever, Crooklyn, Clockers, He Got Game and Red Hook Summer. She's Gotta Have It was remade as a Netflix series and ran for two seasons before Netflix announced that the show would not be picked up for a third.
