Tinashe has just been dropped by her record label RCA, MTO News has confirmed.

R&B singer Tinashe's singing career has been teetering on the fringes of failure for a while now. And yesterday, she fell of the cliff.

Tinashe began her entertainment career at 3, when she began modeling and acting. In 2012, Tinashe released two critically acclaimed mixtapes, In Case We Die and Reverie, which she created in her home studio.

After the release of the mixtapes, she signed with RCA Records. She later released her third mixtape, Black Water (2013). Her debut single, “2 On”, reached number one on the Rhythmic airplay chart, and peaked at number 24 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Her debut studio album Aquarius, released in 2014, was noted by music critics as one of the most “solid” debuts by a new female artist in years.

But her career stalled after that, and has been in a tailspin in recent months.

Yesterday word came down that RCA was moving in another direction, dropping her.

Shortly after word came down, Tinshae unfollowed RCA.

Tinashe said her writing consists of "things that are relative to me and my life; whether that's relationships I've had or relationships that people I know are in, because I can put myself into other people's mindstates and write from that point of view too". She also likes to write about society; "different things that affect me day to day from more of a philosophical standpoint rather than just the obvious stuff."

Regarding her musical style, she is "really inspired by R&B, hip-hop, and alternative music".

I just find darkness interesting in a way. I just love songs that sound like a little crazy, I think it creates an interesting juxtaposition between my voice because it is so bright, and soft, and like pretty, and sweet that I don't want my music to come across sweet or nice. I do like the opposite, so I think of something that's dark and heavy and then I put like sweet and light on top

Hopefully she'll get picked up by a new label.
