Chateri Payne, the Louisiana rookie officer who was fatally shot on Jan. 9 as she was heading to work, was killed by her boyfriend, police are now saying.

Chateri's boyfriend Treveon Anderson, 26, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Two other men, Glenn Frierson, 38, and Lawrence Pierre, 22, were also taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. But police say that it was Trevor that pulled the trigger.

“We are still mourning the heinous murder of Officer Payne,” police Chief Ben Raymond told reporters. “We can have some peace in taking three evil cowards off of our streets so they cannot harm anyone else.”

Chateri just graduated from the police academy on Nov. 16, and was on her way to work as a rookie police officer when she was ambushed outside of her home.

Police say that he killers shot Chateri multiple times, and are died within hours of being shots.

Treveon, in addition to being Chaetri's boyfriend was also the father of the couple’s daughter. At the time, he told police that he was inside their home at the time of the shooting and ran outside when he heard gunshots.

He also claimed that he shot at a person wearing all white clothing, who he believed was the suspect.

“We believe that Anderson shot and killed her and concocted the false narrative of her being murdered by an unknown suspect,” Police said in a new report.

If found guilty Treveon faces the death penalty.
