MTO News broke the story back in January that rapper Future’s 17-year-old son Jakobi Wilburn was arrested during a police bust. The police charged the 17-year-old with possession of a gun with an altered ID, meaning the serial number had been scratched off.
Now we can report that the teen is out of jail and both his mother and father bailed him out.
Jakobi was released from jail on Tuesday. And while his father was not present to greet him, MTO News spoke with someone close to Future who confirmed that his dad paid the bail.
In addition to weapons charges, 17-year-old Jakobi is also facing charges of criminal gang activity, trespassing, possession of a firearm and giving a false name, address or birthdate to a law enforcement officer.
The 17-year-old is being tried as an adult under Georgia's stringent gang laws and is facing up to twenty years in prison if convicted.
Wilburn’s mother, Jessica Smith, told TMZ she and the Atlanta rapper, whose real name is Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, are on top of the situation. "Our son is a minor and to protect his well being in this trying situation, we ask that everyone please respect our privacy at this time,” she told TMZ.
n 2013, Smith filed a lawsuit against Future when she accused him of lying about his income in order to pay less child support, Complex reported. She also took him to court in 2016, accusing him of neglecting their son and again asking for more child support.
A trial date hasn’t yet been set. Jakobi Wilburn is the oldest of Future’s numerous children.
