R. Kelly's Lawyers Are Trying To Have His Trial Delayed Again

The attorneys of R. Kelly are trying to have his trial delayed again.

They say since they have all been quarantining during the pandemic, they have not been able to meet with Kelly regularly to prepare for the trial, which is set to begin August 9.

Lawyer Deveraux Cannick wrote that proceeding with the disgraced star’s trial as scheduled would rob him of effective and meaningful representation.

“Robert is anxious to have his day in court; however not at the expense of his Sixth Amendment rights,” Cannick wrote. He also wrote that this was not a ploy to have his trial delayed again.

Kelly faces several dozen counts of state and federal sexual misconduct charges in Illinois, Minnesota and New York. His August trial is for New York.

Kelly is facing 13 charges in Chicago, including child pornography, the sexual exploitation of children and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government, as well as the coercion or enticement of a female. He has been in jail since July 2019. He denies all of the charges against him.
