Yesterday three New York City police officers were attacked in Brooklyn by a man who is being described as a protester. The man, who is currently in critical condition, is being labeled a "hero" by many on social media.
Police Commissioner Dermot Shea told media that two officers were working an anti-looting post at the corner of Church and Flatbush avenues around 11:45 p.m. when a man armed with a knife walked up casually and stabbed one of the cops in the side of the neck.
A struggle ensued and police claim that the "protester"managed to grab a gun from one of the officers, and shot two other cops.
Here's video of the shooting:
According to authorities, NYPD officers in the area heard the shots and rushed to the scene. More shots were fired, police said.
When all was said and done, two cops had suffered gunshot wounds to the hand and the suspect was shot multiple times, Shea said.
All three officers were rushed to a nearby hospital and are all expected to survive.
The suspect is also in the hospital and in critical condition. While many are upset with his actions - others are calling the "protester" a "hero" and a "freedom fighter."
