A British dad is making headlines in the UK after he built a huge fence to protect his family after finding out that a neighbor who filmed his kids in the garden was actually a registered pedophile police neglected to inform him.

Thomas Goodall, 27, was outraged to find out that convicted rapist, Dennis Lavery, was awaiting trial for molesting a child in Bradford, West Yorks, which is located in Northern England.

According to The Sun, Goodall only found out about Lavery's crimes from a local paper report after Lavery had already been jailed for four years last month. Thomas had repeatedly complained about his neighbor to the authorities, who claimed that there was nothing they could do. They did not inform him of Lavery's priors. He even built a huge fence to protect his 2-year-old son Archie and 8-year-old daughter Olivia.

"My kids were within two feet of a sex offender. We should have been told," he told The Sun.

"I couldn't believe it - in two years' time he would be due to come out and for all we know he could return here. Why were we not told?"

Last month Lavery, 65, was convicted of two indecent assaults against a girl, first when she was a child in the late 1970s and again 15 years later.

Back in 2008, Lavery had been jailed for 12 years for repeatedly raping a young woman. Despite Judge Durham Hall stating that Lavery was "probably still dangerous” he was only sentenced to four years, meaning that he could be out in two for good behavior.

West Yorkshire Police said sex offenders are "risk-assessed to identify anyone who may be at risk of serious harm. [...] As part of this process, consideration is given in each case as to whether the disclosure of information about an offender to others should be made to protect victims, potential victims, staff, and other persons in the community."
