Empire Jussie Smollet lied about being attacked by a gang of angry Trump supporters. But new evidence suggest that the Chicago police have been lying too - and that Jussie may beat his charges!!

Jussie was been charged with 16 separate felonies, for allegedly lying to police.

For nearly two months, the Chicago Police have stated that Jussie paid two Chicago brothers to stage the attack. The police claim that Jussie used a $3,500 check as payment for the hoax hate crime.

But the brothers are speaking out - and they are calling the Chicago police and prosecutors - LIARS!!

According to TMZ, the $3,500 check made out to Abel Osundairo was for training to prepare the former Empire actor for an upcoming music video shoot. Abel, 25, and his brother Ola Osundairo, 27, are bodybuilders.

Abel and Ola's attorney, Gloria Schmidt, told TMZ the $3,500 check was compensation for a training and nutrition program designed to help Smollett bulk up for a music video - not for any staged crime.

The lawyer also told reporters that they told police what the check was for during questioning.

So why would the police make up this "$3,500 check" story if they knew it wasn't true.

Just when you thought the Jussie story was over . . . it gets juicier.

Unfortunately there's also some anxiety on the set of the hit show Empire because of the Jussie situation...

Production sources tell TMZ ... anxiety is high among the "Empire" cast and crew, because Fox has yet to renew the show for a sixth season. We're told people who've been working on the show for years are griping they should've heard the news one way or another by now, and expected to get word on the fate of the show around 2 weeks ago.

For the record ... Fox has typically renewed the show in January ... 5 months ahead of the season finale. The exception ... this past season. Fox waited until a few weeks before the season 4 finale was set to air ... in May.
