A New York man is charged with murdering his 18-year-old girlfriend and their son.
26-year-old man Everardo Donoteo-Reyes was charged with murdering his girlfriend, who has been missing for nearly a year, and their 14-month-old child,. Police found the remains of both victims on an upstate New York farm.
Everado, who also goes by the name Alberto Reyes, was arraigned after being indicted by grand jury on murder and tampering with physical evidence charges.
The grand jury indicted him of killing 18-year-old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon and their son. The mother’s body was found buried on a farm in upstate NY last spring.
The skeletal remains of the couple's son were found scattered in the woods on the same farm months later in October.
Everado lived with Selena on the farm, as a couple. Police claim that during questioning Everado admitted to burying Seek, but not killing her.
Donoteo-Reyes was originally charged with tampering with physical evidence, but police said he is the only suspect in the death of both mother and son.
Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts said that deputies found scattered human remains during a ground search in early October. Those scattered remains led to the discovery the following day of a shallow grave, approximately 12 inches deep. which contained more remains. Those remains belonged to Owen.
The remains were found roughly a quarter-mile from the location where Selena Hidalgo-Calderon's body was found in May.
"I just want to be clear, because some media outlets reported that we had stopped searching," Virts said in October. "We never stopped investigating. We never quit."
