Rookie punter Michael Dickson is going viral today. Not for his play on the football field, but for his choice in women. Michael is the latest high profile White man, to choose a Black woman.
Michael (22) grew up in Sydney, Australia, and was the first NFL kicker to use the rugby style "drop kick" last weekend. With just 14 seconds to go in the game and the Seahawks needing a touchdown to tie, the Australian attempted a short drop kick hoping his team would recover.
The play flopped, but it made people interested in the Australian kicker.
And with interest, came research. Quickly, it turned up that Michael's girlfriend was Black - and his name started trending.
Here's his GF:
Born in Sydney, Dickson first played soccer in his youth before switching to Australian rules football at the age of 12. He excelled in Australian football while playing for the University of New South Wales in the local Sydney AFL competition and was subsequently placed in the Sydney Swans talent academy as a teenager.
In 2017, Dickson won the Ray Guy Award and was a unanimous All-American. Dickson was named MVP of the 2017 Texas Bowl. In late December 2017, it was announced that Dickson would forego his senior year at Texas in favor of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Dickson was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round, 149th overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft. Dickson won the punting job after the Seahawks released longtime veteran Jon Ryan.
