Rapper NBA Youngboy was arrested on Monday by the East Baton Rouge Parrish Sheriff's Office following an anonymous firearm tip and booked on three separate drug charges - possession of schedule I drugs, manufacturing/distributing a schedule II drug, and manufacturing/distributing schedule IV drugs.
Police say they received an anonymous tip through their Street Crimes Division. The Division along with the FBI received a tip that a group of people were brandishing guns at an abandoned lot in the 3800 block of Chippewa Street around 4:30 p.m. When officials arrived, multiple people reportedly ran from the scene. They were able to detain some for questioning and arrested 16 people including the rapper. Upon search of the scene, they also found 14 guns and approximately 79k in cash.
NBA Youngboy's attorney, Jimmy Manasseh, says his client is innocent of all charges. He says no drugs were found on his client or any guns and says further that the police's search was conducted, at least in part, illegally.
The rapper faces several years in prison if convicted and his girlfriend, Yaya Mayweather, is currently pregnant with their child.
