Caroline Flack, the former host of the British reality television show, Love Island, has passed away at 40 after committing suicide.

Her death was confirmed by Flack's family:

"We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today, the 15th of February," the family's statement said. "We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time and we would ask they make no attempt to contact us and/or photograph us."

Flack was the original host of the series from 2015 until last December. She was replaced after she was charged with an assault on her 27-year-old boyfriend, Lewis Burton. Flack pleaded guilty to the charges and was awaiting trial scheduled for March.

The series is one of the most popular reality shows in the UK and even sparked off spinoffs in both the US and in Australia.

Some viewers are now calling for the show to be canceled.
