Rashard Bell is a 28-year-old man from Ypsilanti, Michigan, who was disconnected from his family after spending eight years in prison - for allegedly setting his wife on fire.
Well in the spirit of Christmas, his family welcomed him back into their life and last week, Rashard and his first cousin, 26-year-old Joseph Franklin, and other family members, went to Stardust Lounge to play a friendly game of pool.
Apparently, while playing pool, Bell allegedly got into a physical altercation with Franklin. Authorities say as Franklin left the building with his mother by his side, Bell followed him onto the street where he opened fire, striking Franklin in the torso. Bell then fled the scene on foot.
The father of three lay in the parking lot in his mother’s arms waiting for the ambulance to arrive. Franklin was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Another cousin, Daishwan Franklin, spoke with Click On Detroit about the incident.
As a family, you rewind and you just wish it didn’t happen, said Daishwan Franklin. To have your son lay in your arms and pass, right in your arms, but still have the love and compassion... it just takes a remarkable person.
Bell was taken into custody on Sunday. Because he is a habitual offender, he was denied bond. Rashard Bell was arraigned Tuesday in 22nd District Court on charges of first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession and felony firearm.
