Lil X Nas now has the ultimate revenge story as his song, "Old Town Road" which was pulled from Billboards country charts for not being country enough, is now the no.1 single in the country.
That charting means that Lil Nas X is now the first male solo artist to lead the Hot 100 chart with a debut single since Desiigner's 2016 smash single "Panda."
After fans expressed outrage over the track being pulled, an outpouring of support followed and streams for the song skyrocketed. Lil Nas X may also be gearing up to dominate the country charts as he enlisted country legend Billy Ray Cyrus for the official remix - and fans think issa bop!
Charles Hughes, the director of the Lynne & Henry Turley Memphis Center at Rhodes College, called Billboard’s decision “a bad move,” saying it perpetuated a longstanding racial tension in Black music according to NY Times.
“Black artists have been influential in country a long, long way back,” Mr. Hughes said, “but country has rewarded white artists that have taken advantage of those influences, without giving Black artists the same opportunities.”
