Kim Kardashian has responded to the backlash after it was revealed that she had filed a trademark for the word 'kimono.'
Fans accused Kim of appropriating and exploiting Japanese culture, as a kimono is actually a traditional garment which has been around long before Kim was even a thought in her parents' minds.
Speaking to the New York Times, she said the following:
"My solutionwear brand is built with inclusivity and diversity at its core, and I'm incredibly proud of what's to come," she said in a statement.
"Filing a trademark is a source identifier that will allow me to use the word for my shapewear and intimates line but does not preclude or restrict anyone, in this instance, from making kimonos or using the word kimono in reference to the traditional garment."
Kim fully attends to move ahead with her plans to try and secure the trademark. Her shapewear line has not yet been released.
