Prosecutors have decided to drop a sexual assault a case against Hollywood star Kevin Spacey on Wednesday.

Spacey was accused of groping a young man at a resort island bar in 2016. The accuser refused to testify about a missing cellphone which the defense alleges contains information supporting the actor's claims of innocence.

According to the Associated Press, Spacey's accuser was ordered by a judge to take the stand earlier this month after claiming that he lost cellphone he used the night of the alleged groping.

The defense wanted the phone to recover deleted text messages sent from the phone on the night in question.

Spacey was charged with indecent assault and battery last year. Although Spacey's conduct has been in question for some years, this was the first time criminal charges had been filed against him. Following the news of his arrest, Spacey was dropped from popular Netflix series, House of Cards.
