Late night chat show host Jimmy Kimmel has vowed to employ one federal employee for every day that the government is shutdown.
Kimmel revealed his plan on Monday night and used his platform to criticize the president for holding federal employees hostage over the border wall funding.
“It’s unfortunate that these workers who have nothing to do with this ridiculous wall aren’t getting paychecks, especially right after the holidays,” he said.
Today is the 17th day of the shutdown. It is estimated that around 800,000 workers are either furloughed or working without pay during the shutdown. Kimmel then introduced the audience to his first employee, California prison guard, John Kostelnik. He gave him a spot on the show's band playing the tambourine.
“Do you object to being used as a pawn in this fight over a wall?” Kimmel asked.
“Absolutely,” Kostelnik replied.
Kimmel then handed him a tambourine and offered him a spot in the show’s band.
