Jacob Blake, the Black man who was shot close range by a police officer seven times in his back, had been handcuffed to his hospital bed.
"I hate it that he was laying in that bed with the handcuff onto the bed," Blake's father said Thursday, after visiting his son in the hospital the day before. "He can't go anywhere. Why do you have him cuffed to the bed?"
According to Blake's family, he is paralyzed from the waist down, so he would not be able to leave his bed even if he wanted to.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers claimed he had no idea that Blake was handcuffed.
"I would have no personal understanding why that would be necessary," he said at a press conference per the Sun-Times. "I can't imagine why that's happening and I would hope that we would be able to find a … better way to have him get better and recover," the governor said.
