Everybody else dropped their trailers during Super Bowl Sunday, so why wouldn't Hulu decide to release the trailer for the third season of their award-winning series, 'The Handmaid's Tale.'
Super Bowl viewers were spooked Sunday by Hulu’s dark advertisement for Season 3 of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
The teaser plays on President Ronald Reagan’s 1984 re-election ad known as “Morning in America," but with a dark twist.
"Today, more women will go to work than ever before in our country’s history,” the voice says as the camera pans over crowds of handmaids, handmaids forced to give birth to children against their will, before warning America to "wake up," telling them that "morning's over."
The message is completely in sync with the current political environment. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Hulu Chief Marketing Officer Kelly Campbell said in a statement that the ad for “The Handmaid’s Tale” reflects the show’s focus on the relationship between those in charge and those who aren’t, “which happens to reflect conversations taking place in today’s environment.”
