Future reveals that he quit drinking lean, but was apprehensive about letting his fans know.

The Atlanta rapper is currently doing a promo run for his upcoming album, The WIZRD, which drops this Friday. Speaking to Genius, he gave his reasons for keeping his achievement quiet.

“It’s like me taking a chance on when I was, I didn’t want to tell nobody I stopped drinking lean. I didn’t want to tell because I felt then they gonna be like, ‘Oh, his music changed because he ain’t drinking lean no more. Oh, I can hear when he changed.’ And people are like, ‘Damn, you won’t even say it.’ It just be hard when your fans so used to you a certain kind of way with a certain persona, you be afraid to change. You’re afraid if they would not even accept me no more.”

We can't blame him for thinking that way. Lil Wayne received backlash similar to what Future is referring to years ago when he hopped off the purple drank. Fans actually demanded that Weezy return to the lean because they felt that he made better music high than when he was sober.

During the interview, the "Jumping On A Jet" rapper also discusses the concept behind his new album as well as why his lifestyle is so draining.
