French Montana upset fans across the country, when he spoke out in support of R. Kelly, but has since walked back on his statements.
Speaking to TMZ, the rapper said:
"They don't let nobody have their legendary moments. I feel like they did Michael Jackson like that. They did R. Kelly like that. All the greats went down like that."
He also said, "Whatever happened, happened. [He went] in the court of law and won."
But his comments were slammed by fans of Montana who were disgusted by his stance, forcing the rapper to quickly jump ship.
"Let me be clear. My heart is with the victims. I never thought the people I looked up to as a kid, who sang and danced and gave me hope to become a superstar would become drug addicts, child molestors and rapists. I am hoping we as a culture create better leaders. We need them," he tweeted on Sunday afternoon.
But is it too little too late?
"@FrencHMonTanA man got a daughter. You clearly Have not even watched the docu-series. The next time I buy/stream/download your music will be right before I get R Kelley’s music...never. Nice knowing you," one fan wrote.
"If you backpedal hard enough, you might think you could go back in time. But it really doesn’t work like that, and R. Kelly’s case isn’t just a one-off, or a single accusation. Your heart might be with the victims, but that doesn’t suggest your mind is," wrote another.
"U sided with an Animal. Saying he must enjoy his legacy. Rather u keep quiet before u make matters worse" another angered fan wrote.
Perhaps French will think again before he decides to support an alleged sexual predator?
