A Moreland Mississippi man murdered his one year old daughter then himself.
A break-in and harassing phone calls preceded the death of a baby girl and the suicide of the girl’s father, the Holmes County sheriff said.
The incident began about 6:20 a.m. Thursday when Lavonte Lloyd kidnapped his daughter, Kamaya Lloyd, from the girl's mother, Kimberly Outlaw, in Cruger, Sheriff Willie March said.
"She had been having an issue with him, but she was trying to move on and he was steady harassing her," March said.
Mississippi officials say 23-year-old Lavonte Lloyd kidnapped his one-year-old daughter then shot the girl and himself to death on Thursday in the sleepy town of Moreland.
Police got a call that Lavonte kidnapped the child from her mother’s home and ran off in a pickup truck. Police chased the truck through multiple counties before Lavonte's truck ran into a ditch near Moorhead.
Realizing that he was cornered, the coward shot and killed the young girl and then himself. The child’s body was found lifeless on his lap.
According to the Holmes County Chancery Clerk’s office a woman named Kimberly Outlaw filed a domestic violence petition Monday against Lloyd. She says the case wasn’t heard before Lloyd’s death.
"It's really hard to make any sense out of it all," March said. "(Deputies) saw the baby, like she was lying on the father. Both seemed like they were deceased."
Kamaya's family said Lloyd had been a problem for over a year. March said he had only learned this week that Lloyd had been causing problems. Outlaw contacted the sheriff's department Monday, after Lloyd took Kamaya from a day care center without her mother's permission, March said. Authorities were preparing to issue an Amber Alert for Kamaya on Monday, but the sheriff said the girl was returned to her mother before they could.
