A 41-year-old Palm Harbor, Florida, father named Troy Whitaker is being charged with aggravated manslaughter.
According to police, Troy dropped his 5-year-old daughter off at school and claims that he "forgot" to drop his 23-month-old son off at daycare on Friday morning. Instead, Troy returned home and left his son Lawson Whitaker in the car from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Troy allegedly has been under a great deal of stress as he was studying for a promotional test for the Hillsborough County Fire Department.
Police say that Troy told them that he "finally took his dog on a walk around 3:30 p.m. and got groceries at Publix" before discovering his son in the seat behind the driver's side sea. The 41-year-old dad says that he tried to give his son CPR, but his son was blue and not breathing.
