A Georgia teen was physically restrained by her father as a form of discipline while a verbally abusive and step mother recorded it for IG Live, MTO News has learned.
In the video, which has been seen now by more than 20 million people, a teen named Trinity is seen sitting in a chair in a garage while her father and stepmother question her about alleged theft and drug use.
At times the father smacks Trinity during the questioning.
At one point, the 14 year old tried to run out of the garage, only to be dragged back by her father. He then pinned her to the ground, with her hands above her head and sat on her chest. The angry father then asked Trinity what she would do when other men, not him, restrained her in a similar fashion - while the step mother looked on.
Corporal punishment is legal in Georgia - but many would argue that this is excessive corporal punishment and not permissible in any state. Additionally, child experts no longer believe that corporal punishment it's an effective form of behavior modification.
The father later defended his actions, explaining he was disciplining his daughter for running away and lying. In that video, he didn’t seem apologetic for his actions and told people to get at him if they didn’t like what they saw.
MTO News spoke with members of the family who have confirmed that Trinity has been temporarily removed from her father's custody, and staying with other family members.
