D.L Hughley had a touching moment with his son, Kyle Hughley, on a recent episode of his TV One late night talk show.

Last week, comedian George Lopez was a guest on the show and George discussed Kyle with is longtime friend DL.

During the conversation, Kyle revealed that for a very long time, he thought his father hated him. Kyle claims he felt this way because DL would constantly make jokes about his autism.

Kylie suffers from a mild form of autism called Aspergers Syndrome.

Kyle explained:

“It is challenging—one of the toughest things about it is not being able to tell when people are joking or when people are being sarcastic.

There was a time I actually thought – I don’t think I’ve ever told you this – but, there was a time when I thought my father hated me.

No, seriously. Because of like all the jokes he would say about my condition.

There was a time when I was like, ‘Damn, does he hate me?’”

DL stepped out of character for a second, and responded to his son:

“Let me say this to you: If anything…I was ashamed of having given you something.

I was ashamed that when we went to get you tested at UCLA – I was ashamed that they said it came from the – I was ashamed of what I thought I had placed in you.

Never one moment have I ever not been proud of you or loved you.

You are the best thing I’ve ever done.”
