Belly actor Louis Rankin has reportedly passed away in a fatal car accident.

According to TMZ, the crash involved a transport truck and another vehicle, but the police have released no other information about the incident.

The artist hailed from Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica and grew up in Rockfort and East Kingston. His most successful song was the single "Typewriter," released in 1992. In his lyrics, Rankin often referred to himself as the "Original Don Dada," a term used by many of his dancehall competitors, such as Super Cat.

As well as his role in the movie Belly, he also starred in the Jamaican hit movie, Shottas.

Fans have been taking to social media to mourn his loss:

"R.I.P. Louie :sorry," one fan wrote. "Condolences to the family and loved ones. He was in a movie that I can't remember the name of. In it, he had a wife who loved animals and she was killed. His new girlfriend reminded him of his wife because she loved animals too. He showed a softer and loving side in that movie than his other gangster roles (that I liked too) But that movie is my favourite."

Another fan wrote, "Rest In Heavenly Peace, Mr Don dada..Condolences To His Family."
