We have a first look at Cynthia Erivo portraying Harriet Tubman in the upcoming biopic Harriet, which tells the extraordinary tale of Tubman's escape from slavery.

Tubman went on to free hundreds of slaves.

In the beginning of the trailer, Tubman is shown running away from her slave owner.

"I'mma be free or die," she says before diving into the water to avoid capture from a man standing on the bridge.

Tubman escapes to freedom but not before she meets with abolitionist William Still (Odom Jr.). She was born Araminta Ross and when given the opportunity to change her name, the name she chooses is - Harriet Tubman.

"If I'm free, my family should be, too. I made up my mind. I'm going back."

Still introduces her to the Underground Railroad - and history is made.

"I will give every last drop of blood in my veins until this monster called slavery is dead," she says as she prepares to take on the slave owners.
