Jussie Smollet's character in being killed off the show Empire this season, MTO News has confirmed.

Earlier this week, Empire's writers DENIED REPORTS that Jussie was being written off the show. Well he may not be "written off" - but his character certainly DIES this year, we can confirm.

Empire writers told People magazine, "The idea that Jussie Smollett has been, or would be, written off of Empire is patently ridiculous. He remains a core player on this very successful series and we continue to stand behind him.”

It's not clear if the show has plans for Jussie's character post-death. But they just filmed the funeral for Jussie (Jamal Lyons) yesterday.

A person affiliated with the show told us, "Yes Jamal dies this season. I know because we film the funeral [Friday]."

And we have some receipts to go with the report.

The cast of Empire was seen filming a big funeral scene for the season finale of the FOX TV show. According to multiple Twitter users, the film crew was spotted inside the Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Avenue in Chicago on Friday.

Here's someone who actually saw the filming:

And that funeral, we were told, was for Jussie's character Jamal Lyon.

But before you think that Jamal Lyon is gone for good - keep in mind, we're talking about Empire. Empire is the type of show that could change the storyline next season - and have Jamal resurrected from the dead.
