A Fort Valley State University freshman has died - and confirmed that he was stabbed to death by another student!!

According to a press release from the university, the suspect, whose name is not being released, stabbed Donnell Phelps, 19, yesterday afternoon.

The suspect, who we're told is a student at the Historically Black College, tried to leave campus. He also stabbed one of FVSU's safety officers - a man named Ernest Johnson. Ernest is currently being treated at the Medical Center Navicent Health. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect was taken into custody by police a short time later.

Donnell was from Marshallville, Georgia, majoring in Agricultural Engineering. He was a very good student, and a native of the state. He is a graduate from Macon County High School.

Phelps was a hero. He came to the aid of at least three young women who were being harassed by Scott as they were leaving the campus cafeteria

“I am deeply saddened by the senseless violence that has led to the tragic death of one of our students. My heart and the hearts of the entire Fort Valley State University community go out to the Phelps family. We likewise are concerned for the families of all other persons involved in this terrible event.”
