In his new HBO special, comedian Jerrod Carmichael came out as gay.
“After that was out in the open, I was left alone feeling like a liar, because I had a secret. One that I kept from my father, my mother, my family, my friends and you. Professionally, personally. And the secret is that I’m gay,” he says, according to Variety.
“I’m accepting the love. I really appreciate the love,” he said after people clapped. “My ego wants to rebel against it.”

Appearing on Saturday Night Live, one thing he said he would not be speaking about is the slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
“I’m not going to talk about it,” Carmichael said. “I want to be clear up top: I’ve talked about it enough, kept talking about it, kept thinking about it. I don’t want to talk about it, and you can’t make me talk about it.”

He continued, “It feels like I’ve been talking about it for so long. Doesn’t it feel like it happened years ago? Like, doesn’t it feel like it happened when we were all in high school?”
