The man police believe shot and killed popular rapper/activist Nipsey Hussle is now claiming that he’s insane.

Eric Holder, the 29 year old man that police say shot Nipsey Hussle down in cold blood, was captured today. Eric turned himself into a Los Angeles mental hospital, claiming that he’s ‘insane’ and that he had no memory from the last 48 hours.

The hospital called police, and Eric was apprehended.

But it appears that Eric is now claiming that he does not remember shooting Nipsey. Eric appears to be positioning himself for a possible ‘insanity’ defense.

Under US law if a person committing a crime is found to be ‘insane’ then he can not be tried or convicted of a crime.

While Eric’s insanity claim is probably fake, MTO news spoke with a person who knows Eric and told us that Eric has been treated in a mental health facility in the past.

According to TMZ, "LAPD picked up Holder from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department station in Lakewood Tuesday and took him to a police station in South L.A. -- and law enforcement sources tell us he's currently being held in solitary confinement."

We're told police refuse to let Holder mingle with the general population, because they believe he's a target. As it is, cops were in a race to arrest him before someone on the street took him out. Our sources also say he'll remain in solitary once he's transferred to L.A. County Jail while awaiting trial.

BTW, if there's any doubt about him seeing the light of day before his trial ... a judge set Holder's bail early Wednesday morning at $7,040,000.
